The short answer

Stark Plumbing Solutions clears clogged and slow drains in San Antonio homes, including sinks, tubs, showers and floor drains. We find where the blockage sits and what caused it, so it does not return next month, and you get a written estimate before work begins.

Which drain is giving you trouble?

Signs of a Clogged Drain

Drains rarely fail all at once. They give warnings first, and acting on them is cheaper than waiting for a full backup.

  • Water draining slower than it used to.
  • Gurgling sounds from a drain or toilet.
  • Bad smells coming up from a drain.
  • Water pooling around a tub, shower or floor drain.
  • Water from one fixture showing up in another.

If more than one fixture is affected, tell us when you call. It changes how we diagnose.

Kitchen and Bathroom Drain Cleaning

Kitchen drains clog with grease, food and soap. Bathroom drains clog with hair, soap scum and mineral buildup. We clear the line past the clog, not just the first few inches under the trap, because a partial clear is the main reason clogs come back within days.

For kitchen-specific problems, see Kitchen Sink Drain Cleaning.

Not sure which of these matches your problem? Describe it and we will point you to the right fix.

Toilet and Floor Drain Blockages

Toilet clogs and floor drain blockages involve different tools and different causes. A toilet clog is usually a local obstruction. A floor drain that backs up, especially in a garage, laundry room or basement area, often connects to a larger line.

See Toilet Clog Removal for toilets. If a floor drain is backing up, mention it when you call so we can check the connected lines.

Common Causes of Recurring Clogs

When a clog keeps returning, something is still in the pipe or the pipe itself is the problem.

  • Grease and soap buildup coating the pipe wall and narrowing it.
  • Hard-water scale. San Antonio water is very hard and mineral deposits can narrow pipe over time.
  • Tree roots entering older sewer joints.
  • A sag or belly in the line where waste settles.
  • Flushed wipes and paper products that do not break down.

Drain Cleaning Methods

The right method depends on what is in the pipe and how far it is.

Drain cleaning methods compared
MethodBest forLimit
Plunging and trap cleaningSimple local clogs in a single fixtureDoes not clear deeper buildup.
Cable or augerHair, soap and typical clogs further down the lineCan punch a hole through a clog and leave buildup on the walls.
Hydro jettingGrease, scale and roots coating the pipeNeeds sound pipe. A camera check comes first.
Camera inspectionRecurring clogs and unknown causesDiagnostic only. It does not clear the line.

See Hydro Jetting and Sewer Camera Inspection for the details.

When a Sewer Camera Inspection Is Needed

A camera makes sense when clogs return, when several fixtures are affected, or when you are buying a home. One tip from homeowners and plumbers alike: a camera is most useful once the line is clear enough to see through, so we usually clear first, then inspect.

If the camera shows root intrusion, a bellied section or a crack, the next step is Sewer Line Repair.

What Does Drain Cleaning Cost in San Antonio?

Advertised specials start around $40 to $99. Typical jobs are reported near $372, with complex blockages near $1,000.

That is a wide range, and the reason is simple: a basic clog in one fixture is a different job than a main line blocked by roots. Beware of a low special that grows into a long add-on list. We quote after we see what is actually in the line.

What moves the price

  • Which line is blocked: one fixture or the main line.
  • How far the clog is from the access point.
  • Whether there is a cleanout. Having one makes access much easier.
  • Whether grease, scale or roots need jetting instead of a cable.

How to avoid overpaying

  • Ask for the price in writing before work starts, with labor, parts and any trip or diagnostic fee listed separately.
  • Ask the plumber to explain the cause in plain words. If you get a vague answer, get a second opinion.
  • Compare what is included, not just the headline price. A cheap special that grows into a long add-on list is not cheap.
  • Never let scope change on the fly. If something new is found, work should stop until you approve it.
  • Ask what happens if the problem comes back, and make sure anything promised is on the estimate.
Ranges are published and reported San Antonio market figures, not a Stark quote. Your written estimate gives the exact price.

What to do right now if a drain is clogged

  1. Stop running water into the clogged fixture.

  3. Try a plunger on a sink or tub, with the overflow opening blocked with a wet rag.
  4. If several fixtures are affected, stop using water and call. The problem is likely in the main line.
  5. Tell us what else you tried and when the problem started.

Drain Cleaning FAQs

Why do drains keep clogging?

Because the original cause was never removed. Grease, soap and scale coat pipe walls and narrow them, roots enter older joints, a bellied section collects waste, or flushed wipes snag. A cable punches a hole through the clog but may leave the buildup. Recurring clogs usually need jetting or a camera to find the cause.

Can recurring clogs indicate a sewer problem?

Yes. If more than one fixture drains slowly, gurgles or backs up, or if clogs return soon after clearing, the main line may be damaged or partially blocked. A camera inspection shows whether roots, a crack or a sag is responsible.

When is hydro jetting appropriate?

Jetting suits grease, scale and root buildup in pipe that is structurally sound. If the pipe is cracked or collapsing, jetting is not the right fix. That is why we look before we jet.

Do baking soda and vinegar actually clear a drain?

They can freshen a drain and loosen very light buildup, but they will not clear a real clog or grease scale. Avoid stacking chemical drain openers on top of each other, which can be dangerous and can damage pipes.

Will I know the price before work starts?

Yes. You get a written estimate listing labor, parts and any trip or diagnostic fee, and we wait for your approval. If we find something that changes the scope, we stop and talk to you first.
